Solving Installation Problems

Question:

Can you provide detailed information to help me solve some installation problems?

Answer:

This Pervasive DataTools knowledge base article describes the required steps, in detailed sequential order, for ensuring proper installation of the Pervasive DataTools product.

NOTE: Important DataTools system requirements and installation pre-requisites are described in detail in this support forum post.

Un-install Other Pervasive Integration Products

If any other or any previous version of Data Junction or Pervasive Cosmos (Business Integrator or Data Integrator Development Seat and/or Engine) or Pervasive DataTools Development Seat products is installed on your workstation, it must be completely un-installed first. Follow these steps carefully.

  1. In the Windows Control Panel, select "Add or Remove Programs" (Windows XP) or "Programs and Features" (Windows Vista).
  2. In the "Add or Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" list of applications, select the Data Junction or Pervasive Integration product(s) and remove any (all) that are found.
  3. The entry or entries will display as one or more of the following: Data Junction, Pervasive Business Integrator, Pervasive Data Integrator, Pervasive Data Migrator, or Pervasive DataTools.

After the Windows utility has removed the application(s), you MUST follow the next steps to ensure a "clean" un-install.

The remainder of these instructions assume the software that was removed was originally installed to the default folders. If you installed to a different drive/folders, you will need to locate the associated folders and delete them.

  4. In Windows Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer), navigate to the C:\Program Files\Pervasive folder. Locate any sub-folder that may contain program files for any Data Junction or Pervasive Integration product. Highlight the folder and delete it. This may include a folder named either "Data Junction", "Cosmos" or "DataTools", or any non-default name under which integration products may have been installed.
  5. NOTE: Do NOT delete any folder that may contain program files for any Pervasive.PSQL Database product.

  6. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pervasive\DataTools\Common800\License folder. If any Cosmos or DataTools license files reside in this folder, copy and paste them to a backup folder before proceeding to the next step. This will preserve any Pervasive integration product license files you may need.
  7. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pervasive folder. Locate any folder that may contain program files for any Pervasive integration product. Highlight the folder and delete it. This may include a folder named either "Cosmos" or "DataTools, or any non-default name under which integration products may be installed.
  8. NOTE: Do NOT delete any folder that may contain program files for any Pervasive PSQL database product.

  9. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Pervasive folder (where [UserName] is the name of the end user who installed the Pervasive integration product on the workstation). Locate any folder that may contain program files for any Pervasive integration product. Highlight the folder and delete it. This may include a folder named either "Cosmos" or "DataTools, or any non-default name under which integration products may be installed, AND a folder named "Logs".
  10. NOTE: Do NOT delete any folder that may contain program files for any Pervasive PSQL database product.

  11. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Application Data\Pervasive folder. Locate any folder that may contain program files for any Pervasive integration product. Highlight the folder and delete it. This may include a folder named either "Cosmos" or "DataTools", or any non-default name under which integration products may be installed.
  12. NOTE: Do NOT delete any folder that may contain program files for any Pervasive PSQL database product.

  13. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName] folder. Locate any folder named DataTools_Work and/or Cosmos_Work. Rename the folder(s) by adding ".BAK" onto the end of the folder name(s) before proceeding to the next step. This will preserve any saved integration maps you may have created. Those map files may be copied and pasted into any new work folder that is created when a new/different Pervasive integration product is installed and launched. However, maps and/or processes that were created and saved using one of the Pervasive integration products (Business Integrator or Data Integrator) may not execute when using the Pervasive DataTools products.
  14. All deleted folders and files were moved to the Recycle Bin on your workstation. You may delete those items to conserve disk space on your hard drive.

Your workstation is now ready to install the Pervasive DataTools product.

Install Pervasive DataTools Product

Follow these steps to install Pervasive DataTools:

  1. Locate the self-extracting DataTools product installation file for the version of the Pervasive DataTools product you wish to install. This is the file you downloaded from the DataTools web site after purchasing a subscription. The filename is typically named something like this: PVDataTools-[BuildNumber]-setup.exe
  2. Click on this file to execute the installer.
  3. When prompted, follow the instructions in the installation wizard. The installation may take several minutes.
  4. When the installation is finished, click the "Close" button in the installer dialog box. (The "Close" button will not "activate" until the installation is finished.)

Download Pervasive DataTools License File(s)

Follow these steps to download your Pervasive DataTools License File(s):

  1. In the Windows Start Menu, click on the Pervasive folder and then click on the DataTools menu option.
  2. When the Pervasive DataTools Launcher opens for the first time, it will prompt you to enter your username and password. Enter the same username (excluding email domain name) and password you used on the Pervasive DataTools web site to purchase the subscription. For example: jdoe / mypassword
  3. If you have purchased any new subscriptions since the last time you launched a Pervasive DataTools product, a dialog box will open with a list of the new license files.
  4. Select one or more of the license files you want to download to the workstation on which you are working, and click the OK button. Your new license file(s) will be downloaded into the Pervasive DataTools active license folder as shown below.
  5. On Windows XP, this location is:
    c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pervasive\DataTools\Common800\License

On Windows Vista, this location is:
    c:\ProgramData\Pervasive\DataTools\Common800\License

No license found

I did the install, launched the app and LicenseFile=C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pervasive\DataTools\Common800\License\dj800.slc not found.

Never mind

I stumbled across the solution.
