Proxy Support

Hi,

after installing DataTools I get this message:

---------------------------
DataTools Launcher
---------------------------
Error: Failed opening socket for address:64.132.13.11:443 (WSAErrorCode=10061). This error is caused by an inability to connect to the Pervasive license web service. An active internet connection is required. If you have internet access, please check your firewall settings.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I checked the firewall settings, this are ok. I think there is a problem with our LAN, we have only internet access over a proxy. Is DataTools Launcher proxy support ? Any idea ?

Thanks a lot

RE: Same Web Service Problem

Hi juanjosevelez,

Your license file has been sent to you via email.

We will be adding support for accessing license files via a proxy server in a future version of DataTools.

RE: Proxy Support

The Pervasive DataTools license web service through which license files are downloaded to your workstation does not currently support proxy servers.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will add proxy support in the future.

Until then, if you access the Internet through a proxy server and cannot download your license file through the DataTools Launcher, please post in this forum and your license file will be sent to you at the email address on your account on the Pervasive DataTools web site.

Thank you,

The Pervasive DataTools Team

RE: Web Service Proxy Support for DataTools

Hi,

Theoretically, if you are able to access and download the product, you should be able to access the web service through which the license file(s) are downloaded into the DataTools Launcher.

I will need to ask about proxy support, but in the meantime I will send your license file by email. Instructions will be included.

Proxy

Hi - sorry about this, but I am in the same boat - i.e. using a proxy to connect...

RE: Proxy Support

Hi rhialto,

I have submitted a question to our IT department regarding proxy support for accessing DataTools license files via our web service, and will post an answer as soon as I hear back from them.

In the meantime, make sure that the problem you are experiencing is not caused by your workstation's firewall/anti-virus/anti-spyware software. The most likely culprit is Windows Firewall since it is automatically installed on all Windows workstation versions, from XP SP2 and above. You can add exceptions to the Windows Firewall rules by opening up the Firewall settings in the control panel and clicking the "Exceptions" tab. Most workstation firewalls will block all applications from opening connections unless explicit permission is granted. Here are the steps to add the DataTools Launcher to the Windows Firewall exception list:

  1. Close the DataTools Launcher.
  2. In the Windows Control Panel, open Windows Firewall.
  3. On the Exceptions tab, click the Add Program button.
  4. In the Add Program list, select DataTools if it appears in the list, OR
  5. If DataTools does not appear in the list, click the Browse button and navigate to the following folder and EXE file (assuming you installed DataTools to the default location):

    C:\Program Files\Pervasive\DataTools\Common800\LicenseManager.exe

  6. Click OK to close the Add Program list.
  7. Click OK to close the Windows Firewall window.

After adding the DataTools Launcher to the Windows Firewall Exceptions list, start the Launcher, and let us know if this resolves the problem for you.

Hi Jo, many thanks for the swift response. I've adjusted the firewall as suggested, but am still unfortunately getting the same error message as ruebezahl2003 reported.
Cheers.
